The petition is received and the points raised will be included within the consideration of all the feedback received during the consultation period.
The provision of fire cover for Surrey is undertaken on a county wide basis, and this will continue to be the case. The effect of the proposals on average response times for the first fire engine is an increase of four seconds, whilst it is recognised that there is a greater impact for the arrival of the second fire engine. This is counterbalanced by the requirement to have five firefighters on every fire engine.
The draft Public Safety Plan is an integrated plan that is focussed on reducing risk and increasing community safety through a range of measures, including preventing incidents occurring and reducing their impact when they do occur. Emergency response also forms a vital element of this integrated approach and this requires increasing the capacity for training and for obtaining detailed risk information to provide the safest possible working environment for firefighters.Petition update 1, 14 March 2011
The petition has a total of 376 signatures and can, therefore, in accordance with the Council's petition scheme, be presented to the relevant Cabinet Member.
The petition has been referred to the Cabinet Member for Community Safety, and will be considered at the Cabinet Member for Community Safety decision making meeting at 11.00am on Wednesday 16 March 2011. The Cabinet Member will respond to the petition at that meeting.More details from petition creator
The 'public safety plan' proposed by Surrey County Council will put lives at risk with massive cuts to front line fire cover. Surrey already has one of the cheapest Fire Services in the country per household. Response times are being increased.FYI- they are already longer than comparable brigades. If you live in Surrey, you can stop this by signing the petition and expressing your 'anger' to your local MP.
